Land and Properties acts for public land developed on behalf of the City of Medicine Hat. This includes acquisition and inventory management of lands held in the City's land bank; the subdivision and servicing of property to meet market demand; and the marketing of serviced lots for residential, commercial, and industrial purchasers and builders. Additionally, the department provides property negotiation/acquisition services to all internal departments. As a major landowner, the department has the ability to play a substantial role in the economic, planning, and social benefits of the city.
The City's land development is in coordination with various departments across the organization including but not limited to Gas, Environmental Utilities, Electric, Municipal Works and Planning, Building and Development. Permits for development, occupancies, utilities services, landscaping or home-based businesses are all available from the Planning, Building and Development department located in City Hall.
