LED Street Lights

LED (Light Emitting Diode) street lights are making their way into cities across the world.  Medicine Hat currently has the new LED street lights installed in three locations and are looking for feedback from the public. Your feedback from this online survey will help the City determine if LED street lights should continue to be installed throughout the City.

The new LED street lights produce a white light, consume 30% less energy and are anticipated to last 5 times longer than the City’s current HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lighting.  The LED lights are Dark Sky friendly which prevents artificial illumination of the night sky known as sky-glow.  The 20 year expected life of the LED street lights will reduce waste and street light repairs, freeing up valued City resources for maintenance of other important City infrastructure.  The LED street lights contain no lead or mercury and can be recycled or upgraded at the end of their useful life.

For more information on LED street lights, please contact the Municipal Works Department at (403) 529-8177.
