Adopt-A-Rink Program

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE 2011-2012 ADOPT–A–RINK SEASON

The City of Medicine Hat Parks and Outdoor Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the 2011/2012 Adopt–a–Rink Program. Yes, winter is just around the corner!

The Parks and Outdoor Recreation Department recommends a minimum of six volunteers to sponsor a low or high board rink site. Materials for the rink and a set up and training session for the preparation of the rink will be provided including the use of the water supply and standpipes.

Interested persons are asked to notify the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Department at 403-529-8333. All rinks are subject to final approval and availability where water service currently exists.

Deadline for applications is Friday, October 21, 2011.

The Adopt-A-Rink Program provides an opportunity for residents of neighbourhoods with low-board and high-board rinks to adopt and maintain a rink throughout the winter season for their enjoyment.

The Parks and Outdoor Recreation department sets up the low-board rink boards and supplies the Adopt-A-Rink applicant with equipment and guidelines to set up ice in their rink. There is a $100.00 registration fee which is 100% refunded at the end of the season, upon return of equipment.

This program has proven successful and the Parks and Outdoor Recreation department have 17 low-board and four high-board rinks that can be adopted.

* The ice is maintained on a regular basis BUT due to the changes in weather on a daily basis the condition of the ice varies. Please check the skating conditions each time before using and exercise caution when utilizing outdoor rinks.
