Meter Reading:
You’ve probably seen a Meter Reader at your home taking a consumption reading from your electric meter. In most cases, readings are also taken of your gas and water at the same time.
In the event a meter reader could not gain access, you should have received a card with instructions on how to call in your reading.
If you want more information about how your meter is read, please check out Meter Reading within Utility Billing.

Federal Government Mandated Meter Exchange:
You may also have experienced an electric meter change-out. On a regular basis a government mandated change-out of your meter is done. This program is in compliance with the federally regulated Electricity and Gas Inspection Act.
The program is in place to ensure there is a fair measure for all customers in regards to the energy that they consume. Meters are sent to a government appointed inspection agency to be cleaned, calibrated, inspected for accuracy and sealed prior to being reinstalled at a new location.
More information is available from the Federal Government’s Meter Exchange Program / National Compliance Policy http://www.strategis.ic.gc.ca/epic/site/mc-mc.nsf/en/Home
Notifying the Homeowner:
In the event that an exchange, inspection or maintenance is required on your meter, staff from the Electric Utility will try to make direct contact with you by knocking on the door or ringing the bell. At this time they will advise on the nature of the work being done.
If there is no answer, the required work will be done. Your power will be briefly interrupted and a card will be left which explains why. You may need to check your electrical appliances and reset any electrical equipment.
You can contact the Electric Utility at 403.529.8267 or at elecdist@medicinehat.ca if you have any questions or require further information.
