Medicine Hat is located in southeastern Alberta. It is approximately 300 kilometres (186 miles) southeast of Calgary, and 160 kilometres (99 miles) north of the U.S. border.

Medicine Hat is located on the Trans-Canada Highway, Highway 3, and the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline. It is approximately 50 kilometres east of Canadian Forces Base Suffield.

It is located at 50 N latitude and 110 42 W longitude.

The city’s total area is 120 square kilometres (45 square miles) and its elevation is 721 metres (2,365 feet).
