Draft Land Use Bylaw Open House
Posted Date: 6/22/2012

For Immediate Release
June 22, 2012

Medicine Hat – The draft Land Use Bylaw is ready for public feedback and City Council wants to know what you think of it. Planning, Building and Development staff have been working on this for over a year and it affects everyone in Medicine Hat.

The bylaw lists the “permitted” and “discretionary” uses for each district. A list of rules or regulations is also provided for every district, which clearly sets out how structures are to be built. A Land Use Bylaw has a number of general regulations that control development on a lot - the building, design and construction, and how ongoing operations are carried out.

What you do with land is covered by the Land Use Bylaw – everything from commercial district parking and landscaping, to signage, and private property improvements such as fences, driveways, garages and decks. There is also a new Residential Mixed Use District that creates higher residential densities in specific locations throughout the city.

The draft Land Use Bylaw creates guidelines to enhance your neighbourhood through landscaping, building form, and location.

Everyone is invited to come out and participate in putting together one of the most important planning documents that will be used by City Council to shape the community and direct the course of Medicine Hat’s living environment.

Draft Land Use Bylaw Open Houses will be held June 26 and 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Higdon Hall, Stampede Grounds.
