New HAT Smart program launches

Medicine Hat – The award-winning HAT Smart program has relaunched with energy conservation and renewable energy components for City of Medicine Hat utility customers. 

The new program features incentives for Energy Star rated appliances, attic insulation and renewable energy projects such as solar panels. The commercial program again features conservation and renewable energy incentives for business owners undertaking upgrades. 

Energy Conservation - residential

ENERGY STAR rated appliances:
Clothes washer - $200
Air conditioner - $200 (central); $50 (window/wall-mounted)
Refrigerators - $200
Dishwasher - $100

Natural gas stove - $200
Natural gas clothes dryer - $200
Attic Insulation – rebate will range between $125 and $750 depending on R-level achieved

Energy Evaluations - $150 rebate for a comprehensive report 

Renewable Energy - residential

25% of a project up to a maximum of $2,500 

Commercial – energy conservation and renewable energy projects

25% of a project up to a maximum of $5,000

A new component of the program includes HAT Smart Scratch and Win, which launches on Tuesday, July 10 and gives utility customers the chance to win back up to 100% of the costs of their small ticket energy conservation and renewable energy purchases. The purchases must range between $20 and $100 in total to be eligible. 

Forthcoming aspects of the HAT Smart program will include the HAT Smart Education Centre, Hat Smart Energy Awareness Days and the Community Energy Grant program. More information on those portions of HAT Smart will be revealed in the coming months.
