2016 Downtown Development Incentive Program

Applications are now available for the 2016 Downtown Development Incentive Program.

However, the Business Support Office will not be accepting the Applications until Tuesday, January 5, 2016 starting at 9 a.m.

Acceptance of the Applications will be by email/electronically only to business@medicinehat.ca. This will enable the Business Support Office to check the Applications with a time stamp as they come in. Grant funds are on a first come, first served basis.

Total amount of the 2016 program fund is $200,000. Once the applications are received and reviewed, they will be applied to the grant in order of the time stamp.

Any applications that do not fit the criteria or are not  completed correctly will be sent back to the applicant and the next one reviewed until all funds in the Program ($200,000) are allocated.

Acceptance of applications does not confirm grant funding.  Funding is predicated on completing the proposed work and submitting copies of paid invoices for review.

Success of the DDIP Program Results in Early Closure – Deadline for Applications September 15, 2014

After nearly four years of successful grant disbursements, the City of Medicine Hat’s Downtown Development Incentive Program (DDIP) cut-off date has been moved to September 15, up from December 31, 2014 and the program will be closed to further applications.

The program was so successful that by August 2014, $1.2 million was reimbursed to businesses who had undertaken enhancement projects through the program. There are outstanding approvals waiting for work to be completed and reimbursed and that will access much of the remainder of the $1.5 million budget.

More than $350,000 in grants was reimbursed in 2013 and since January 2014 the program has disbursed over $585,000. It is estimated that the property owners who have accessed the DDIP to date have invested $8 million to $10 million in downtown private property redevelopment.

Applications are not being accepted after September 15, 2014 however those already submitted and those projects that have already received approval will continue to remain in effect until funding is utilized.

Consideration is being given to a revised version of the DDIP for 2015 and 2016 pending Council approval within the overall budget. Details will be communicated if and when a revised program comes into effect.

Thank you to all the businesses and contractors that participated in the DDIP. The downtown area looks stunning and the City of Medicine Hat is proud to have a played a part in that incentive.
