Medicine Hat – Effective Saturday, June 20, the spray parks in both the Ross Glen Towne Centre and Saamis Rotary Park will be operating for public use. The park washrooms at both locations will be open with safety protocols in place.

“The City continues to review guidance documents provided by the Government of Alberta and build our reopening plans,” said Merrick Brown, Director of Emergency Management. “We’re excited to reopen these amenities for the community.”

The City will reopen select recreation facilities and arenas, with modified availability, beginning the week of July 6, including:

  • Hill Pool
  • Strathcona Pool
  • Family Leisure Centre (FLC) Cenovus Arena & South Country Co-Op Fitness Centre

“Necessary measures need to be in place to ensure all public health guidelines are followed, including physical distancing, so it will look different,” said James Will, General Manager for Parks and Recreation. “Our team is excited about the reopening and look forward to welcoming the community back.”

The Family Leisure Centre will reopen in a staggered approach, with additional amenities tentative reopening staggered through the last three weeks of July, including:

  • Kinsmen Aquatic Park
  • Gymnasium
  • Field House

“We are still asking anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to please stay home,” Will added. “Everyone needs to make responsible choices so that we can all enjoy these facilities. We recognize recreational amenities are valued by the community and contribute to quality of life and are pleased to re-open them, even if it is limited in some areas. Practices continue to evolve to mitigate virus transmission in community spaces and we are eagerly working to incorporate them into our community services for your safe enjoyment.”

Park washrooms in high-traffic areas are also reopening this weekend while the City continues to review other amenities, including Crestwood Recreation Centre and Echo Dale swim lake.

Information about registering for swimming lessons, admission and bookings will be available on the City website prior to the reopening of the facilities.

As a reminder, community parks, playground equipment, trail systems, court spaces, and campground facilities are available for your use and enjoyment.
