7 Street SE Water & Sewer Main Replacement Project Continues

UPDATED: Intersection of Kingsway Avenue SE and 7 Street SE Closed August 5

Post Date:07/28/2020 1:34 PM

Medicine Hat – Construction to replace aging water and sewer infrastructure on 7 Street SE between Kingsway Ave SE and South Railway Street SE continues.

The closure of the intersection of Kingsway Avenue and 7 Street SE, which was originally scheduled to start on July 29, has been moved back to August 5.

The Contractor has adjusted their construction plans to complete the current work zone prior to starting work in Kingsway Ave, in an effort to minimize the length of the closure of the intersection.

Detours will be in place and motorists are reminded to obey all traffic signs and detours related to ongoing construction.

This phase is necessary to replace deep utility infrastructure and introduce additional isolation zones to improve the functionality of the water distribution system. Residents can expect this closure to last until August 27 subject to weather conditions and unforeseen delays.

The 7 Street SE project continues to occur in phases, allowing crews to complete the work in segments while facilitating continued access to local businesses and residences during construction.

Under Exception 19(g) of the Noise Bylaw #4353, the contractor will work through the night, on occasion, to complete integral components before businesses open in order to reduce the impact of a water shutdown during hours of operation.

Residents may refer the project page on our website for more details.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, necessary City construction and infrastructure renewal and repair work continues throughout the City. Residents are reminded to allow crews space to work safely, and to adhere to physical distancing standards by staying at least two metres away from City workers.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their continued patience and understanding as the necessary upgrades are completed to ensure safe and reliable infrastructure for years to come.
