Starting Monday, June 1, 2020, Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting tree removal operations in Heald Park located in the Riverside area.

Several Siberian Elm trees, as well as one white Spruce tree, will be removed in order to accommodate the relocation of the Riverside rink. These trees were assessed by a City arborist and it was determined that several of the trees have deteriorated and their removal is necessary. Nearby trees in the area will be removed for the relocation project. It is believed that scheduled construction could put these trees in a further state of decline.

These trees will be replaced with new ones within our parks system at a later date and after the rink has been moved (locations to be determined). The replanting of any healthy trees removed will be at a ratio of 3:1 minimum, and the replanting of any dead trees removed will be at a ratio of 1:1.

During construction, the public is advised to obey all signs in the area and to remain a safe distance from any construction activities. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on 2nd Avenue during this time. Motorists are asked to drive with caution when in the area.
