NOTE:  There is a non-refundable application fee of $500.00 to apply for service.  The application fee goes toward the initial design sizing to provide a quote for the applicant.  If the applicant chooses to proceed with the work after receiving the quote, the application fee and associated preliminary design are incorporated into the final work and related charges.

Did You Know:

  • The 2019 average cost of commercial electric service was $8,300.00
  • Commercial electric service applications also apply to non-typical service alterations as well as new installations
  • The 2019 project cost range for services under a commercial application was between $1,100.00 to $33,800.00.

Infrastructure Relocation Request

Contact our Electric Engineering group to discuss utility relocation of poles and guy wires.

Electrical Code Interpretation STANDATA

With recent requests for clarification regarding the demarcation point between Consumer installations and Utility/Supply Authority installations, an Electrical Code Interpretation STANDATA has been released.  The changes noted below are for the purpose of determining demarcation between the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) and the AEUC (Alberta Electrical Utility Code) for the following:

  • Overhead Residential Service:                                                                                                                                            City of Medicine Hat Electric Operations is responsible up to and including the insa-links at the service mast.
  • Overhead Commercial Service:                                                                                                                                          City of Medicine Hat Electric Operations is responsible up to and including the insa-links/ampacts at the service mast.
  • Underground Residential (including overhead to underground):                                                                                City of Medicine Hat Electric Operations is responsible up to the line side terminal of the electric service meter.
  • Underground Commercial:                                                                                                                                                City of Medicine Hat Electric Operations is responsible up to the secondary spades of the transformer.
