Electrical Facilities – Substations
Substations are part of an electrical generation, transmission and distribution system. They generally have switching, protection and control equipment, and transformers. They transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse and perform several other important functions.
Observe all danger and warning signs and do not enter any fenced or gated areas surrounding electrical facilities.
Electrical boxes are either pink, grey, green or beige (stainless steel) and are located in the Utility Right-Of-Way (UROW) in underground service areas (found in yards or back alleys). They lower the voltage of the electricity from utility distribution levels to the 120/240-volt level used in homes.
While the transformer is safe on the property, please follow the posted safety directions and keep children away.
If you have a transformer on your property and need information about landscaping or fencing, contact us.
