Transmission Line Upgrade Information Session
Medicine Hat – In 2011 City of Medicine Hat Council approved the Transmission Line Infrastructure Upgrade Project to meet growing demand for electricity on the west side of the city. Work on this project is now 75% completed. This fall, work will be undertaken to complete this project. This work will occur during October and November this fall, in the areas of 13th Avenue, Stratton Way, Saamis Heights, Vista and Desert Blume (see map below)
A Drop-In Information Session will take place on September 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Hillcrest Church on 13th Avenue, to provide information about the project. Residents and businesses in these areas are invited to attend, view maps and ask questions about the project.
“Once completed, the transmission line upgrade will have the capacity to meet growing demands from residential areas and commercial businesses on the west side of the City,” said Jeff Sandford, Acting Manager for the City’s Electric Distribution Department.
The new transmission line follows the same route through residential and non-residential areas. Work will occur in planned sections in several neighbourhoods and will require some trail closures and scheduled power outages when lines are being attached to the new poles – with advance notice to utility customers. Residents are advised to watch for signs and barricades indicating construction areas and pathway closures. There will be notifications on the City’s social media sites throughout the project advising of the project progress.
Forbes Bros Powerline Construction has been contracted to do the work. The total project cost for the entire Transmission Line Infrastructure Upgrade Project is $34.83 million.
